Mr. Osias Mendoza - 2011 HISD’s Outstanding Asian/American Elementary Teacher

Mr. Osias Mendoza, A Special Education and ESL Teacher at Wesley Elementary School was awarded as the 2011 Houston ISD’s Outstanding Asian/American Elementary Teacher by the Asian Advisory Committee of the Houston Independent School District during a reception held on the occasion of the Lunar New Year Celebration last February 2011.  The AAC which spearheaded the search awarded the distinction to Mr. Mendoza for his outstanding performance in the classroom, his excellent leadership and his active involvement with the various school and community programs.  Aside from his regular teaching assignment as a Lifeskills teacher, he also serves as the chairman of the ESL and Multilingual Department and the school beautification programs at Wesley.

Originally from the Philippines, Mr. Mendoza earned his degrees in Elementary and Secondary Education with Latin Honors (Cum Laude) and his Master of Arts in Education.  He has been in the teaching profession for the last 18 years having spent 7 years of that at Wesley.  His success in life is anchored on his guiding principle and belief that “whatever you do, always aim for nothing but the best”.
