Mabel B. Wesley Students Shine at Rainbow Math Competition!

The 25th Annual Education Rainbow Math Challenge (ERC) was held on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at Reagan High School. More than 550 HISD students from 35 schools in third through fifth grade throughout the city participated in the challenge. The event was sponsored by several businesses throughout the city, including HEB, Shell, and Centerpoint Energy amongst others. The challenge consisted of two sections: an individual competition and a team problem solving challenge, with each section contributing 50% towards the final school team score. Each grade level was divided into 3 groups of 12 schools. J’Shaylian Casey, a third grader at Mabel B. Wesley won first place overall for third grade out of the participating 35 schools. The Wesley 3rd Grade team placed 2nd in their group under the leadership of Ms. Tristan Bragg. The Wesley 5th grade team placed 2nd in their group under the leadership of Ms. Albertha Thomas. The team representing Wesley for third grade was: J’Shaylian Casey, A’ Zia Jackson, Jazylen Espirit, Juan Gallegos, and Chloe Sampson. The fourth grade team under the leadership of Ms. Jenita Boleware was: Akili Page, Jalen Tusey, Frederick Guess, Brionne Petit, and Jai Johnson. The fifth grade team was: Chloe Wilson, Brianna Barnes, Tiara Trevino, Breshelle Wright, and Claudia Young.
